South Korean, U.S. and Japanese ministers to discuss North Korea

The South Korean, U.S. and Japanese foreign ministers are due to meet in Atlanta on the sidelines of a G20 meeting.

They are expected to discuss North Korea’s recent missile launches and closer ties with China after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s recent visit there.

The ministers will consider how to coordinate their response and encourage North Korea to return to dialogue with the United States.

The talks follow a September meeting where the three countries backed North Korea’s complete denuclearization and said dialogue remained possible.

They also plan to discuss economic security and cooperation in the Arctic, including shipping, maritime safety, shipbuilding and energy supplies.

After the talks, the ministers are expected to attend a ceremony signing an Arctic-Pacific cooperation memorandum.
