Verona charity auction to fund bile duct cancer research
A charity auction of valuables in Verona was organized by the Benetti luxury group, chef Giancarlo Perbellini and the children of his late wife, Silvia Bernardocchi.
The proceeds will fund research into bile duct cancer, also called cholangiocarcinoma.
The disease affects about 5,000 people in Italy each year, and the article says it receives less public attention than more common cancers.
Bernardocchi, who was 57, and Benetti, the group’s founder, both died of the disease.
Perbellini has become vice-president of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, taking the role his wife previously held.
The foundation was established in Padua, and a research fund was dedicated to Bernardocchi the day after her death.
Organizers say they want to turn her memory into a lasting commitment to research.
