A ranking names 10 of Gary Larson’s funniest Far Side comics
Gary Larson’s The Far Side is the subject of a ranking of 10 comics.
The ranking argues that the strip should be judged mainly by how funny and clever its jokes are.
Unlike strips built around recurring characters, The Far Side focused on individual jokes.
Its humor ranged from broad gags to comics that asked readers to look closely for the punchline.
The ranking says the strip was not primarily aiming for profound messages or conventional beauty.
It also notes that comic strips can be more than disposable entertainment.
The ranking presents its choices as a matter of opinion.

It says Larson’s focus was making readers laugh, rather than creating recurring characters or aiming for profound themes.
