Nvidia CEO urges Kazakhstan to turn energy into AI capacity
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang urged Kazakhstan to build its own AI capacity during a visit to the capital, Astana.
He said the country could use its energy resources and skilled workers to become a major centre for AI computing.
AI systems need large amounts of electricity, data and computing power, which countries must develop to build and run them.
Huang’s idea of “sovereign AI” is for nations to process their own data and provide AI services to their citizens.
Kazakhstan wants to turn its energy resources into technology capacity, rather than rely only on exporting energy.
Huang said Nvidia and Kazakh technology companies had developed new partnerships over the past year, and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded him a state medal for his contribution to AI development in Kazakhstan.
