Most A-share Banks in China Increased Profits in First Three Quarters

China’s 42 A-share listed banks made 1.75 trillion yuan in net profit in the first three quarters of 2026, up 3.78% from a year earlier.

34 banks increased profits, while eight reported declines.

State-owned banks earned the largest share, while some regional commercial banks also posted strong growth.

Banks’ net interest margins—the difference between interest earned on loans and paid on deposits—moved in different directions: of 25 banks that disclosed figures, 12 reported an increase, two were unchanged and 11 saw a decline.

Lower deposit costs helped some banks’ margins recover, as banks cut rates on deposits and adjusted their funding mix.

Banks say they will keep managing funding costs and supporting returns on assets as they look ahead to the rest of the year.
