CedarDB launches limited cloud availability for its combined database
Munich startup CedarDB has opened limited access to its cloud database service, CedarDB Cloud.
Its database is designed to handle both day-to-day transactions and analytical queries, jobs that businesses have traditionally handled with separate systems.
The company grew out of a Technical University of Munich research project and has spent about a decade developing its database engine.
CedarDB says it is compatible with PostgreSQL, which can help customers switch without rebuilding their apps.
The launch comes as AI agents increase interest in databases that can answer questions about business data.
CedarDB will initially serve its first cloud users with its current 14-person team, and CEO Moritz Sichert says it may need to hire as demand grows.
The company says its cloud service could help it reach more users beyond large enterprises and compete with larger data companies.
CedarDB announced limited availability of CedarDB Cloud, a hosted version of its database that handles both transactions and analytics.
The Munich-based company said it made the announcement onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt after testing the service with people on its waitlist.
CedarDB is built on Umbra, a Technical University of Munich research project, and is compatible with PostgreSQL.
The company says its design aims to improve performance without requiring more computing resources or major changes from customers.
CedarDB plans to serve its first cloud users with its current team of 14 people.
