M-12 highway extension to Tyumen planned for completion by end of 2026

Russia is extending the M-12 highway to Tyumen, Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin told President Vladimir Putin.

The road is part of a larger route called “Russia” and is being built under the president’s order.

The extension is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.

The highway is expected to connect Tyumen and Sverdlovsk regions with several other regions, including Moscow, as well as Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Chuvashia.

The route could cut driving time between Tyumen and Kazan to 13–15 hours, compared with 16–18 hours now.

Travel between Tyumen and Moscow could take 18–23 hours instead of 32–34, according to the estimates given.
