India's exports recover in West Asia as Africa and ASEAN shipments grow

India's exports to West Asia are gradually recovering after conflict-related disruption linked to the US-Iran war.

Shipments to the region rose from $4.2 billion in April to $5.01 billion in August, but remained below January's $6.48 billion.

From April to August of fiscal year 2026-27, exports to Africa rose 47% to $26.19 billion, lifting Africa's share of India's exports to 12.2%.

Shipments to ASEAN grew 56% to $23.08 billion, while exports to North-East Asia rose 37% to $21.03 billion.

The gains reflect India's efforts to diversify its export markets as global trade flows shift.

For the wider economy, merchandise exports increased 18.51% to $259.89 billion in April-September compared with the same period a year earlier.

The data show exports continuing to expand across several regions, while shipments to West Asia have yet to return to January levels.
