São Paulo gallery restricts access during pro-Lula rally

A pro-Lula rally took place beside Galeria Metrópole in São Paulo on Thursday, October 15.

Organizers moved it to Dom José Gaspar Square after the gallery’s management did not allow them to use the building’s shared areas.

As the rally approached, the gallery closed its gates from 6 p.m., earlier than its usual Thursday hours, which can run until 11 p.m.

Customers, workers and guests were stopped from entering, and a book launch inside the building was disrupted.

The closure affected businesses and people with events inside while the rally called for votes to support Lula’s re-election.

Police said they recorded a report over a disagreement between two people.

The gallery’s administration had not responded to requests for comment by publication.
