At least two killed in explosions near Yemen government palace in Aden

At least six explosions struck near a government-used palace in Aden, a port city in southern Yemen, on Thursday.

A government official said two people were killed and six wounded, while residents fled the area in panic.

The Houthis, rebels based in northern Yemen, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group said it targeted a military operations headquarters linked to Saudi Arabia, which leads a coalition fighting the Houthis.

The attack came as fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition has escalated, opening another front in the wider Iran war.

Yemen’s internationally recognised government has many leaders living in exile, and officials said those in Aden were safe.

The escalation is complicating efforts to end the wider war and disrupting regional air travel, while Saudi Arabia has also faced attacks on airports and oil infrastructure.
