Spain faces a 13–14 GWh shortfall in electric car battery capacity

Spain needs 13–14 GWh more battery-cell capacity to support expected demand for electric cars, according to a Deloitte analysis.

The gap is linked to an expected demand of about 225,000 electric cars a year.

Electric cars are forecast to grow from 14% of the market next year to 64% in 2035 in Spain.

The country is building electric-car and battery production, including new large battery factories, but projects are moving more slowly than targets and forecasts require.

Closing the battery capacity gap matters to Spain’s car industry, which is a major European vehicle producer and faces growing competition and technological change.

The analysis says Spain needs to accelerate its projects if it wants to maintain its position in the global automotive industry.
