US awards $6.9 million contract for radar to track unmanned aircraft

The US Department of War's Joint Interagency Task Force 401 awarded a contract worth more than $6.9 million to CHAOS 1 Inc.

The contract will provide Vanquish Prime radar systems for US Central Command operations, which cover the Middle East and other areas.

Unmanned aircraft can be used by state and non-state actors, and they can challenge conventional air-defence systems.

The radars will provide long-range detection and tracking to help US forces spot aircraft and improve their awareness of potential threats.

The systems are intended to add a detection layer to a wider counter-drone network, not operate as a standalone defence.

CHAOS 1 will deliver the radars to designated locations across the CENTCOM region, with training and technical support included.

The acquisition is part of JIATF-401's effort to provide integrated counter-drone capabilities to US forces.
