Turkey lowers electricity tariff threshold for homes to 3,000 kWh in 2027

Turkey’s energy regulator has cut the household electricity threshold to 3,000 kWh a year for 2027, down from 4,000 kWh in 2026.

The rule covers household electricity customers and takes effect on 1 January 2027.

Customers who reach the threshold and do not sign a separate supply agreement will move to a higher-cost tariff based on actual supply costs.

The regulator expects about 6.5 million of 44.2 million homes to be in the high-use group.

The threshold equals an average of 250 kWh a month, which the regulator estimates would cost about 820 lira at current rates; the test is based on annual use, not the bill amount.

Electricity use in 2026 will also count, and the transition date depends on when a customer first crosses the limit.

The regulator says the national tariff itself is unchanged, and several groups—including customers reliant on electric life-support devices—are exempt.
