Medic reportedly detained after soldiers found at house near Kyiv

On November 2, residents gathered outside a house near Kyiv in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, saying people inside were being held and beaten.

The claims concerned National Guard members and men who may have left their military units without permission, as well as newly mobilized men.

National Guard commander Oleksandr Pivnenko said the house was temporary housing for 18 service members before they went to a training centre, and denied that anyone had been tortured.

Four men were taken by ambulance to hospital; accounts said they needed medical care, but authorities did not confirm the extent of their injuries.

Former lawmaker Igor Mosiychuk said police detained a medic who raised the alarm during a livestream, but other accounts did not confirm her detention.

Police denied reports of unlawful detention or deaths, while details about what happened inside remained unclear.

Ukraine’s interior minister ordered an investigation to check the reports, including the conditions in which the soldiers were staying.

We’ve sent four service members who need medical care to the hospital. These are service members who were caught and returned to their units after going absent without leave. To be clear, the other service members [in the house] are members of the National Guard,
