New car sales in Spain post strongest October since 2007

Spain registered 98,487 new passenger cars in October, up 1.8% from the same month last year and the strongest October result since 2007, according to one industry group.

Sales in the first ten months reached about 1.01 million, 6.2% higher than in the same period of 2025.

Plug-in electric and hybrid cars drove much of October’s growth, making up 31.5% of new registrations and rising 43.1% year on year.

Across the year so far, cars that use electricity in some form accounted for 71.6% of registrations, including non-plug-in hybrids.

New-car emissions fell below 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre for the first time in the year-to-date figures.

Industry groups expect annual sales to exceed 1.2 million, but say demand for electrified cars could weaken if government purchase incentives are not extended.

The current Plan Auto+ support is due to end on December 31, and the groups are calling for continued funding in 2027.

This is the direction Spain must maintain in 2027, giving continuity to the aid and the conditions that are allowing more citizens to take the step towards electrification.

October has been a historic month (...) We have not reached 100,000 units, but we came very close, even though last month had two fewer working days than October 2025.

We consider it essential to have visibility about the continuity of aid for electrified vehicles in 2027, if we do not want to lose the positive effect they have had on this market.
