KBS show faces complaint over presenter’s frugal-living segment

A viewer asked for a review of a KBS television segment about presenter Do Kyung-wan’s frugal habits.

The complaint concerns an episode of “Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant” broadcast on October 22 in South Korea.

Do said his bank balance was 254,795 won and showed ways he tries to cut household costs, including saving water and turning off the air conditioner.

The viewer questioned whether the segment presented his finances objectively, pointing to reports that Do and his wife, singer Jang Yoon-jeong, bought a penthouse for about 12 billion won.

Reports also said the couple sold another home in Seoul’s Yongsan district for about 12 billion won, making an estimated 7 billion won in profit.

The complaint asks whether KBS met standards for objectivity and public responsibility in its broadcast.

The sources do not say whether the regulator has begun a review or what decision it may make.
