Anthropic secures $3.4bn in gas generators for data centres

Anthropic secured commitments for gas-fired generators worth $3.4 billion for its data centres.

The deal with OnePWR Solutions, based in San Antonio, Texas, covers equipment with a total capacity of 1.7 gigawatts.

Anthropic acquired the equipment commitments, not OnePWR itself, and no OnePWR employees joined Anthropic.

The agreement also includes engineering and construction services needed to install the generators.

Demand for AI computing is driving a race for electricity, while long waits for power equipment have made it harder for companies to expand data centres.

By securing generators directly, Anthropic aims to gain more control over the power its operations need.

The equipment is expected to be available immediately and over the next two years.
