Authorities ban all demonstrations in Lyon on Saturday
The Rhône prefecture has banned all demonstrations in Lyon on Saturday after violence and looting during protests on October 17.
The protests were part of a movement against the rising cost of living, and thousands gathered in the city centre.
The prefecture counted 2,000 demonstrators, while 150 to 200 shops were looted or partly damaged.
A tourist office site on Bellecour Square was also burned and destroyed.
About 200 people were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of theft, damage or handling stolen goods.
The ban follows a night-time curfew in the city centre and a separate ban on a student-led demonstration planned for Thursday.
The restrictions aim to prevent further disorder, while Lyon's mayor is due to meet the prime minister on Thursday with the mayors of Paris and Marseille.
