Antonelli can clinch his first F1 title at the Mexico City Grand Prix
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli is close to his first Formula 1 title ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix.
He has 365 points, 123 ahead of teammate George Russell and 124 ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton.
Two more points would guarantee Antonelli the championship, even if Russell or Hamilton wins in Mexico.
He could also clinch it by finishing 10th if neither rival wins, or without scoring if neither takes victory.
A title win would make Antonelli the youngest champion in F1 history at 20, and Italy’s first champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
Sergio Perez will race at home in Mexico and make his 300th Grand Prix start, while the fight for second place remains close.
The Mexico City race is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, with Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi still on the calendar afterward.
The Qatar and Abu Dhabi races may be affected by conflict in the Middle East, which could change how many chances remain to score points.

The Mercedes driver needs two more points to secure the title, and ninth place would be enough.
Antonelli leads teammate George Russell by 123 points and Lewis Hamilton by 124, with 125 points available across the remaining five races.
