Amsterdam Museum Hosts Rembrandt-Inspired Tattoo Project Through November 7
The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam has turned the Dutch painter’s former home into a temporary tattoo studio for a two-week public project, bringing Rembrandt’s art onto visitors’ skin.
Organized with Dutch tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher, the event offers tattoos based on Rembrandt’s drawings and etchings, linking the museum with Amsterdam’s tattoo scene.
Appointments cost 100 to 350 euros, and the event is scheduled to end on November 7; slots were still available when the story was published.
Designs include self-portraits and other scenes, while production designer Bo Kwakernaak is having Rembrandt’s The Descent from the Cross tattooed across his back over several sessions.
The museum says prints and tattoos both spread images, giving the project an artistic purpose beyond a gimmick.
The museum held a similar event with Schiffmacher in 2023, and the current project’s remaining appointments are the chance to take part before it closes.
