PSC honours Javier Solana with European values award
The Catalan Socialist Party, led by Catalan president Salvador Illa, gave Javier Solana its European values award at a ceremony in Barcelona.
Solana is a veteran Spanish politician and diplomat who served as a minister and held senior posts at NATO and the European Union.
The party said it wanted to recognise his long record in international affairs.
In a discussion with Illa, Solana commented on election results in the United States, Israel and Brazil, and on a coming vote on November 29.
He said the results in the United States and Israel were good news, and described Brazil's Lula winning after finishing second in the first round as a major change.
Solana also said China’s economic strength calls for a positive relationship, while countries should be willing to say no when needed.
The Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) honoured Javier Solana with its fourth European values award.
