China aims to build a modern fire and rescue system by 2030

China says it plans to have a modern fire and rescue system largely in place by 2030.

The target is part of its 2026–2030 planning period, known as the 15th Five-Year Plan.

The government also aims to reduce deaths in fires and prevent major fires, while improving public fire safety and local response capacity.

The National Fire and Rescue Administration says it will focus on prevention, rescue capability, equipment, community safety and technology and training.

It plans to strengthen urban and rural, forest, specialist and air rescue operations and expand the use of domestically made firefighting aircraft, large helicopters and drones.

A separate emergency-management plan calls for better coordination of rescue teams and disaster supplies, with central and local reserves working together.

The government says people affected by disasters should receive effective help for basic needs within eight hours.
