Manchester City beat Brighton on penalties to reach Carabao Cup quarter-finals

Manchester City beat Brighton 4-3 on penalties after the teams drew 2-2 in their Carabao Cup tie at the Etihad Stadium.

Brighton twice took the lead, through Malick Yalcouyé and Georginio Rutter, but Mateo Kovacic and Vitor Reis scored to bring City level.

Goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli saved two Brighton penalties, while City also missed one of their attempts.

The holders’ win keeps their Carabao Cup title defence on track and sends them into the quarter-finals.

City will host League One side Bradford in the last eight.

The teams meet again in a Premier League match on Saturday, giving Brighton a chance to respond.
