Construction and wholesale and retail trade employed 44.8% of workers in the business sector, making them the biggest sources of employment.

Employee compensation rose 6% to SR624.1 billion, while operating expenses increased 4% to SR2.462 trillion.

Investment in fixed assets reached SR992 billion, up 0.4%, while the sector’s operating surplus edged down 0.1% to SR2.542 trillion.

The figures show that the activities generating the most revenue were not always those employing the most people.
