Indonesia backs industrial growth to create jobs, Listyo says

Presidential Chief of Staff Listyo Sigit Prabowo said Indonesia will keep promoting industrial growth under President Prabowo Subianto.

The government is also aiming to speed up processing raw materials in Indonesia, a policy known as downstreaming.

Listyo said the measures could help thousands or even hundreds of thousands of new industries grow.

He said this could create jobs while strengthening the economy and adding value to products.

Listyo said the government also wants to protect workers’ rights and prevent layoffs.

He added that skilled workers, competitive industries and cooperation among government, businesses and workers are needed for growth to improve livelihoods.

The government says better skills and worker protections must accompany industrial growth, but no specific timeline or next steps were given.
