Beijing and Hong Kong seek closer cooperation on intellectual property

At a Beijing-Hong Kong intellectual property meeting in Beijing on November 4, industry figures called for closer cooperation between the two places.

They said stronger links could help support innovation and companies expanding overseas.

Hong Kong’s plans include developing a regional intellectual property trading centre, while Beijing has issued its own development plan for the field.

A Hong Kong intellectual property enquiry point began serving the public in Beijing’s Zhongguancun area in February, giving local innovators access to information and services.

Speakers said Beijing businesses could use Hong Kong’s legal, branding and international business networks to commercialise technology and creative work.

They also pointed to Hong Kong’s intellectual property financing sandbox and the growth of mainland securitisation, and said cross-border financing models could be developed further.
