Himachal Pradesh raises state employees’ dearness allowance by 5%

Himachal Pradesh has raised state employees’ dearness allowance by 5%, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on October 23.

Dearness allowance is an extra payment intended to help public employees and pensioners keep up with rising prices.

The increase combines a 4% rise for the current year and 1% in unpaid allowance, bringing the total rate from 45% to 50%.

The decision is expected to benefit about 275,000 state employees and pensioners.

Group D employees with unpaid pay-revision arrears will also get ₹10,000 in additional arrears.

The state says the increased allowance and arrears will be paid on November 1.

The government says it is also cutting spending to maintain financial discipline amid pressure on the state’s finances.
