Chiikawa film passes 18.1 billion yen and adds a seventh bonus

The first Chiikawa film has earned 18.1 billion yen after 87 days in Japanese cinemas, with 12.42 million tickets sold.

The film, called *The Secret of Mermaid Island*, opened on July 24 and tells a long story about Chiikawa and friends visiting a special island.

Its story is based on the popular Mermaid arc, created for the film under the original illustrator Nagano's supervision.

The film ranked 12th in Japan's all-time box office and was the top-grossing film released in 2026, according to the reports.

It is also earning money faster than *One Piece Film Red* did at the same point in its run.

From Oct.

24, cinemas will give moviegoers one random card from four designs, while supplies last.

The cards feature Nagano's new illustrations of characters in scenes not shown in the film.
