Jincheon County proposes rules to expand use of its characters

Jincheon County in South Korea is proposing rules for its own characters to manage them and broaden how they are used.

The draft ordinance would set out who holds the rights, how permission can be granted and what users must or must not do.

The county wants to prevent uncontrolled use while protecting each character’s image and identity.

One character is Jinmir, inspired by Nongdari, a local landmark.

The county plans to use characters in products, promotional materials, videos and other content to promote Jincheon and strengthen its local brand.

Residents can submit comments on the draft until Nov.

9, as the county seeks views before moving ahead with the ordinance.
