Dravid and Nehwal nominated to Ahmedabad 2030 Games committee

Rahul Dravid and Saina Nehwal have been nominated to the proposed organising committee for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, India.

Dravid is a former India cricket captain and coach, while Nehwal won a badminton bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics; their places provide athlete representation on the committee.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi is expected to lead the committee, which is also set to include representatives from sports bodies and the private sector.

India plans to include 15 to 17 sports, compared with 10 at this year's Glasgow Games, which left out sports including hockey, wrestling and cricket.

The Games' operating costs are expected to be Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, and the Sports Ministry has committed Rs 2,000 crore in grants; public infrastructure spending is separate.

The Ahmedabad Games are expected in October 2030, and the proposed committee is to oversee preparations.
