Spanish journalist Augusto Delkáder dies at 76

Augusto Delkáder died in Madrid at 76 on Friday, after a career of more than five decades in journalism.

Born in Cádiz, he began at Diario de Cádiz and became its director in 1976, during Spain’s transition to democracy.

He later joined El País’s founding team and served as its deputy director.

In 1987, he moved to Cadena SER, where he led news services and later held senior executive roles.

He helped modernise Cadena SER by developing its news and programming and supporting the expansion of its radio network in Latin America.

His career linked major changes in Spanish newspapers and radio, and he was known for urging journalists to report the news when in doubt.

He left executive roles in 2021 and was named honorary president of Cadena SER.
