Shiga Bank and Ikeda Senshu HD move toward management integration

Shiga Bank and Ikeda Senshu Holdings are moving toward a management integration in Japan's Kansai region.

Ikeda Senshu Holdings owns Ikeda Senshu Bank, which is based in Osaka.

The two groups would have more than ¥14 trillion in assets if they combine.

That would make the group the largest regional banking group in Kansai.

The talks follow a partnership announced in April, when the groups said they would take small stakes in each other.

They had also been discussing cooperation in business lending, overseas operations and staffing.

The possibility of a larger group matters amid competition from Kyoto Financial Group, which is currently the largest in Kansai.

The sources say the groups are adjusting toward integration, but do not give a timetable or details of the next steps.
