Madhya Pradesh opens irrigation project for 260 villages

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav opened a ₹2,387.6 crore irrigation project in Sardarpur, in Dhar district.

The Narmada water scheme is designed to serve 260 villages in Dhar and Jhabua districts.

It is expected to provide irrigation to about 57,422 hectares of farmland and benefit roughly 70,000 to 72,000 farmers.

The project aims to give farmers more reliable water for growing crops.

Yadav also transferred about ₹317.8 crore in crop insurance payments for 16.7 lakh farmer applications.

The exact farmer-benefit estimate differs between accounts, which give figures of about 70,000 and 72,000.

A local legislator asked the government to assess whether villages left out of the scheme could be added; the project’s water benefits will depend on its operation.
