OAB-SP annuls Deolane Bezerra’s professional suspension
The OAB’s São Paulo appeals panel annulled Deolane Bezerra’s suspension from practising law in the state.
The panel acted on an appeal from her defence, which argued that the procedure had irregularities.
The suspension was imposed in June by the OAB’s ethics body, and the panel said there were flaws in that decision.
Her professional registration still shows as suspended in the national lawyers’ register while the annulment is put into effect.
Bezerra has been in preventive detention since May, as authorities investigate suspicions including money laundering, criminal association and possible links to the PCC.
The investigation began in 2019 after notes found in a prison led authorities to examine a transport company and suspected financial links to the criminal group.
The ruling concerns her right to practise, not the criminal investigation, which remains ongoing.
OAB-SP’s 8th Appeals Chamber annulled the decision suspending Deolane Bezerra’s right to practise law in São Paulo.
The chamber said it found irregularities in the suspension imposed by the organization’s Ethics and Discipline Tribunal.
The decision followed an appeal by Bezerra’s defense and was published on October 26.
Her professional registration still appeared as suspended in the national lawyers’ database, pending an update.
