Red Sox infielder Caleb Durbin has surgery on injured left pinky

Boston Red Sox infielder Caleb Durbin had surgery last week to reconstruct a joint in his left pinky.

He partially dislocated the same finger in June while sliding into first base, but did not miss any games during the season.

Durbin played third base for Boston and appeared in the team’s Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees.

He was one of the American League’s top defensive third basemen and also hit for a league-average rate.

The team has not given a recovery timeline.

The surgery took place in the offseason, and the available information suggests he may be ready for spring training, though that has not been confirmed.

Durbin is under team control through 2031 and is not eligible for salary arbitration until 2028.
