PD lawmakers confront Salvini at Lombardy regional council

Democratic Party lawmakers protested Matteo Salvini as he arrived at Palazzo Pirelli, the seat of Lombardy’s regional council.

They held signs saying he should think about trains and shouted that he should focus on public works in the region.

Salvini was there for a press conference titled “Stop Mosques in Lombardy.”

Members of Salvini’s League party tore up the protesters’ signs and shouted “shame.”

League regional councillor Alessandro Corbetta called the protest a “farce,” while Salvini said Lombardy had record public-work funding, exceeding 30 billion euros.

The dispute brought attention to both the conference’s opposition to mosques and disagreements over transport and regional projects; no next step was announced.
