EU set to send Ukraine 3 billion euros in defense funding this week

The European Union is set to send Ukraine about 3 billion euros in defense funding this week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the planned payment after a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Oct.

11.

The money is part of a 90 billion euro EU loan approved in April 2026 to help cover Ukraine’s financial and defense needs through the end of 2027.

The EU says the funding is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses and protect its skies.

The bloc most recently sent Ukraine 1.24 billion euros on Oct.

Some further payments depend on Ukraine submitting receipts for EU review.

Even with the loan, Ukraine expects a 42 billion dollar gap in its 2027 budget.
