Trey Kaufman-Renn cleared to play for Kansas in season opener
Trey Kaufman-Renn is available for Kansas's opener against Fordham on Monday.
The former Purdue forward was cleared after a court granted him a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, allowing him to play for now in the 2026-27 season.
He spent five seasons on Purdue's roster but played in only four college seasons because he redshirted his first year after a knee injury.
Kaufman-Renn is seeking a sixth year, a case that differs from other players' bids for an extra season because he has already been on a college roster for five years.
He was also drafted 59th by the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer, adding another complication to his eligibility case.
At Purdue last season, he averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
His availability gives Kansas another experienced player for its roster, which is already positioned to compete near the top of the Big 12.
