Google is moving Gemini features into Skills, Task and Scheduled Actions

Google is changing how several Gemini tools are organized in its AI chat service.

Starting Nov.

17, it will automatically convert Gems on personal accounts into Skills; work and school accounts will follow in 2027.

Gems are separate custom bots, while Skills bring their instructions into the main chat and can be selected with a slash command or applied by Gemini.

Users can combine Skills in one conversation, but some tools available in Gems, including Deep Research and Canvas, do not yet work with Skills.

Google is also moving Spark into the chat as Task, next to Scheduled Actions, which run prompts at set times and can prepare up to 10 results in the background.

Scheduled Actions may suit briefings and other tasks that do not change quickly, but results are prepared during the hour before delivery.

People with personal Gems should test workflows that rely on unavailable tools before conversion, and Google says Skill sharing and Drive file attachments are coming soon.
