Brazilian manufacturers rely more on traditional banks for shorter-term credit
A survey by Brazil’s National Confederation of Industry found that traditional banks were the main source of shorter-term credit for manufacturers seeking loans from February to July 2026.
The share relying on these banks for short- and medium-term loans rose to 65.3%, from 61% in 2025.
For loans lasting more than five years, traditional banks remained the leading source, but their share fell to 49.5% from 51%.
Small businesses were more likely to receive less than they requested: 33.3% did so for shorter-term credit and 34.4% for long-term credit.
Overall, 62.1% of companies seeking shorter-term loans received the amount they wanted, compared with 61% for long-term loans.
About half of manufacturers did not seek shorter-term credit, and 54% did not seek long-term credit during the period.
The CNI surveyed 1,701 small, medium-sized and large companies in August, but the survey gives no indication of what lending conditions will be next.
