Laporta says Lamine Yamal deserved Ballon d’Or after Barcelona star places third
At the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, Harry Kane won the award, with Kylian Mbappé second and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal third.
Before the winner was announced, Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Yamal deserved the prize for his talent and titles.
Laporta said the club had not learned the result in advance because the process was kept secret.
Yamal’s third-place finish made him the highest-ranked Barcelona player in the award standings.
Laporta also addressed Barcelona’s 2-1 league defeat to Real Madrid, calling it a hard blow but saying the team remained top of the league.
