São Paulo court authorizes seizure of R$283,000 owed to Belo
A São Paulo court authorized the seizure of about R$283,000 that singer Belo is due to receive in another legal case.
The money is meant to pay legal fees owed to his former lawyer, Marcelo Epifanio Rodrigues Passos, who represented him in a long-running case with former band manager Denilson.
That dispute began after Belo left the group Soweto in 2000, and Denilson accused him of breaking a contract.
The two reached a court-approved settlement in 2023, ending their dispute of more than 20 years.
The funds in the other case include royalties and digital-platform payments, and the seizure is intended to reserve enough to cover Belo’s debt.
The 34th Civil Court will decide who gets paid first among the lawyer and other creditors; Belo’s press office said he would not comment.
