Former Sydney teacher jailed for sexual offences involving two students
Former Sydney teacher Tayla Lee Brailey was sentenced to 15 months in prison in Parramatta District Court.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to offences involving two students, aged 17 and 16, who were under her care.
The court heard she had sex with the older student in his car during the school day and sexually touched the younger student in a classroom.
Brailey was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after her arrest, and a court heard she was likely experiencing a manic episode when the offences took place.
A judge said she abused the trust placed in her as a teacher and that her actions caused harm to the students and damaged trust between families and schools.
One student said he felt ashamed and had to leave high school before finishing Year 12.
She can apply for parole from April 24, 2027, and the court ordered that she be placed on the NSW Police child protection register for 15 years.
