Police question Uiwang mayor over election statements on Moomin Park

Police questioned Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je on Oct.

23 over statements he made during the June 3 local election.

Kim had said that no city budget was used to build Moomin Park and that the project was funded through a private company’s donation.

A complaint alleges he made false statements under South Korea’s election law.

Police are checking whether his comments about the park’s funding, and other campaign statements, broke that law.

The case’s statute of limitations expires on Dec.

3, so police say they plan to wrap up their investigation soon.

They will then decide whether to refer the case for prosecution; separately, another police team is investigating allegations related to the park project and searched Kim’s home and city hall office on Oct.
