South Korea’s president plans more ways to communicate directly with the public

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said he had reflected on how he communicates with the public and wants to do more directly.

Presidential communications aide Sung Ki-hong said Lee made the comments on a flight back to Seoul after a state visit to Mexico.

Sung said Lee’s direct communication with the public would use a wider range of methods, not just social media.

He pointed to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s regular live press conferences and visits around the country as examples of ways leaders can reach people.

The aim, Sung said, is to bring the public closer to the president and make government communication more open.

Social media is one channel among several, and no specific next steps were announced.
