Actor José Luis Gioia discharged after stroke and intensive care

Argentine actor José Luis Gioia suffered an ischemic stroke while filming the second season of Menem, a Prime Video series about former president Carlos Saúl Menem.

The 73-year-old was taken to hospital and diagnosed with meningoencephalitis, an inflammation affecting the brain’s coverings and tissue.

His condition was serious, and doctors placed him in a medically induced coma and used a ventilator for about a week.

He began waking on October 17 and was discharged from hospital on October 30.

Gioia is now undergoing rehabilitation at Clínica Alcla, but the timing and extent of his recovery are not known.

He had been playing Menem’s doctor, but could not finish filming, so the production replaced him and removed his filmed scenes.

He has a history of cardiovascular problems, including high cholesterol and previously placed stents.

Apparently he did not finish filming all the scenes for the Menem series and, as they needed to finish, they had to replace the actor with another.
