Purmersteijn knocks Gemert out of the Dutch cup after extra time

Purmersteijn beat Gemert after extra time in the first round of the KNVB Cup in Purmerend.

Gemert had been the stronger side for much of the match, but still lost after a painful extra-time period.

The win sends Purmersteijn through to the next round of the Dutch cup.

Purmersteijn had been promoted last season after winning its fourth-division group and was eighth in the third division A before this match.

The club had also reached the main cup competition by winning two qualifying matches.

The result gives the newcomer a chance to face a bigger-name opponent, depending on the next-round draw.
