Genesis GV80 Hybrid delivers quiet driving and strong test-drive fuel economy

Genesis has introduced the GV80 Hybrid, its first hybrid model, adding an electric motor to the luxury SUV.

A test drive from Seoul to Hanam and back covered about 55 km.

The tested car averaged 14.2 km per litre, above the stated combined rating of 12 km per litre for the five-seat, two-wheel-drive version with 19-inch wheels.

The review found smooth shifts between electric and engine power, with little of the jolt sometimes associated with hybrid cars.

At speeds below 30 km/h after starting, it can use electric power, making low-speed city driving quieter.

Its combined output is 352 horsepower, compared with 304 horsepower for the GV80 2.5 turbo, and it reached 100 km/h in about 7.1 seconds in the company’s own test.

The review gives no details about future plans for the model.
