FSSAI warns food companies over nutraceutical labelling violations
India’s food regulator, the FSSAI, warned companies over supplement labels that do not meet mandatory rules.
The warning covers nutraceuticals, health supplements and other regulated foods, including products with plant ingredients and extracts.
The rules have been in place since 2016 and set standards for permitted ingredients and their limits.
Labels must show required warnings clearly and prominently, and products must not claim or suggest that they can cure diseases.
These safeguards aim to help people use the products safely, especially those who may be more vulnerable to misuse.
The regulator warned it may take action against non-compliant companies.
