One local militant active in Kashmir, but police say threat remains
Kashmir police chief Sujit Kumar said one local militant remains active in the region, while security forces stay alert to possible attacks.
Police identified the man as Lateef Ahmad, 21, from Kulgam, and said he was behind a July 25 attack in Anantnag that killed a policeman.
Ahmad is supported by foreign militants who move between locations, Kumar said.
Security forces are tracking them, including along a route linking the Pir Panjal and Kashmir valleys that is considered important for militant movement.
The threat remains despite the low number of local militants, and police continue to find improvised explosive devices.
Security protocols on Kashmir’s highway remain in place following earlier attacks.
